CUT + Paste + Keep Your Heart Right For Kidmin

A Zine For Kids Ministry Leaders & Volunteers

Teaching kids week-after-week can get tiiiiring. Sometimes we wanna lay down + take a nap. We know how easy it is to get lukewarm and lose heart for the good work of making little disciples.

Here are 3 bible verses we cling to throughout the week (srsly, we turned them into a mini zine / booklet for weekly motivation!) to get us leading and volunteering on Sundays with confetti-popping-glee! 🎉

1. DO NOT HINDER

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

We’ve heard this verse time and time again in kids ministry. But we want you to focus on the second part for a minute. “do not hinder them”. It’s not as warm and cozy as the first part, “Let the little children come to me…” but it’s just as important. In this story in Matthew, Jesus has to tell his own followers to get out of the way! And the hard truth in this verse to swallow is that sometimes we get in the way.

2. MAKE DISCIPLES

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

Jesus’ final words to His followers while He was on earth is a simple command to go on mission to make disciples. The task of making disciples is our job in children’s ministry and we take it very seriously. But even more than making little disciples and planting God’s Word in their hearts, we need to first ask ourselves a very important question.

“Why do I want to make little disciples?”

Think about it for a second. Most likely, there are real reasons...important reasons. Maybe for you it’s freedom from frustration, growing alongside kids as a Christ follower or getting back your wonder and becoming childlike again...

3. DO NOT TIRE OF DOING GOOD

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)

Some days with kids are toughhhh. We worry if the stories we’re teaching are landing in the kids’ hearts. Some Sundays we wonder if we’re just glorified babysitters while the “real” teachable adults get to listen to the message.

Sometimes we don’t see the fruits of our labor right away, but we hold on to this verse knowing that the weekly work we do in discipling children has lasting and impactful effects that echo in heaven!

We hope you use this mini booklet to take time to reflect on what you will and will not do in your holy and set apart calling to Make Little Disciples!
